The Restigouche River is still iced over with a small open channel along the Quebec side from the Matapedia River down. There is also a small channel along Home Pool on the New Brunswick side, and another channel open in Ledges Pool. The open water channel runs and disappears under the ice on the river’s path to the bay.  The Bay of Chaleur is mostly open water now with some shore ice. Up river, it has been reported of heavy ice in the river as at the lodge the ice is quite thick.

 

The ground is covered in snow pack deeper in the woods, gullies and creek beds. Daytime temperatures rise during the mid day but drop quickly and are below the freezing mark each night. Soft snow and water on top of the river ice in early afternoon and by morning frozen back over again. We await the ice run and will post when it starts.
